彎曲し火傷し爆心地のマラソン   wankyokushi kashoushi bakushinchi no marason 

Twisted and seared
the marathon at the center
of the atomic explosion



霧の村石を抛らば父母散らむ    kiri no mura ishi o houraba fubo chiran

The foggy village 
my parents would be dispersed
if I threw a stone



人体冷えて東北白い花盛り      jintai hiete touhoku shiroi hanazakari

Our bodies feel chilly
white blossoms are in full bloom
in Tohhoku (Northern) District



どれも口美し晩夏のジャズ一団   doremo kuchi utsukushi manatsu no jazu ichidan

Each mouth
is so lovely--a jazz group
in late summer



暗黒や関東平野に火事一つ   ankoku ya kantouheiya ni kaji hitotsu

In the pitch darkness
one fire is seen    
on the Kantoh Plain



谷に鯉もみ合う夜の歓喜かな   tani ni koi momiau yoru no kanki kana

Carp are jostling
wild with night ecstacy
in the valley stream



梅咲いて庭中に青鮫が来ている  ume saite niwajuu ni aosame ga kite iru

Japanese plums blooming
blue sharks have come
all over my garden



猪が来て空気を食べる春の峠    hishi ga kite kuuki o taberu haru no touge

A wild boar
is coming to eat air
at the spring ridge



冬眠の蝮のほかは寝息なし     toumin no mamushi no hoka wa neiki nashi

No sound of breathing
except that of a viper
in hibernation



酒止めようかどの本能と遊ぼうか    sake yameyouka dono honnou to asobouka

Shall I stop drinking?
and which instinct
shall I indulge in?

山に泊れば春の林が伐られていた  yama ni tomareba haru no hayashi ga kirarete it

We stayed at the hill
oh! the spring forest
had been cut down



刺青の青年とその子五月の雪   irezumi no seinen to sono ko gogatsu no yuki

Snow in May 
a tattooed youth
and his child



日焼けせり湖岸とき色の睡蓮    hiyake seri kogan tokiiro no suiren

Sunburnt am I
slight pink water lilies 
by the lakeside



ときに耕馬を空に映して大地あり
toki ni kouba o sora ni utsushite daichi ari


A good earth lies
sometimes reflecting horses
plowing in the air



霧の古城の記憶の中にピックルス噛む
kiri no kojou no kioku no naka ni pikkurusu kamu


In my memory
of the misty old castle
chewing pickles



風に抗して樹樹もわれらも傾くばかり  
kaze ni koushite kigi mo warera mo katamukubakari 

Against the wind
the trees and all of us
do nothing but decline



秋を狼やわらかすぎる丘の顔      aki o ookami yawaraka sugiru oka no kao

Of autumn the wolves 
the faces of the hills
are too gentle       

 

眼前にこよなきひかり雪の黄河     ganzen ni koyonaki hikari yuki no Kouga

The yellow river in snow
exquisite brightness flowing
before my eyes



黄海に黄河から来し魚影動く      Koukai ni Kouga kara kishi gyoei ugoku   

Coming from the Yellow River
the shadows of fish moving
into the Yellow Sea



森の奥のわれの緑地が掘られている  mori no oku no ware no ryokuchi ga horarete iru 

My green land
in the heart of the wood      
is being dug

kyou! to wameite kono kasha wa yuku sinryoku no yonaka

kyou! screaming aloud
this train runs into
the fresh green night 
 

狼に蛍がひとつ付いていた   ookani ni hotaru ga hitotsu tsuite ita

A wolf;
one firefly clung
to the wolf



青い熊がらくた空地に金(きん)の腑    aoi kuma garakuta akiti ni kin no fu

A blue bear 
,in the junky vacant space
golden entrails



雪の外あざやかにあり昼の家   yuki no soto azayaka ni ari hiru no ie

The house in daytime
stands so vividly outside
in the snow



犬の睾丸ぶらぶらとつやつやと金木犀  
inu no kougan burabura to tsuyatsuya to kinmokusei

Dog’s testicle dangling
dangling bright and bright
golden osmanthus



心臓に麦の青さが徐徐に徐徐に     shinzou ni mugi no aosa ga jojo ni jojo ni

The green of barley
gradually and gradually
comes to the heart



妻身ごもる秋森の間貨車過ぎゆく   tsuma migomoru aki mori no ai kasha sugiyuku

My wife is pregnant
goods wagons going away
through the autumnal forest



流星群来暗く冷たい夏の終り     ryuuseigun ku kuraku tsumetai natsu no owari

Meter shower
comes dark and cold
at summer’s end



車窓より拳現れ旱魃田      shasou yori kobushi araware kanbatsuden

A fist appeared
from the train window
dried up field


河の歯ゆく朝から晩まで河の歯ゆく 
kawa no ha yuku asa kara ban made kawa no ha yuku

from morning till night

With the moon
my watery forest
in the blue clothes


春鳥きて鳴けり衰弱も花のよう      harudori kite nakeri suijaku mo hana no you

The bird in spring

has come to sing
weakening like flower


かなしみの草原を着る夫も鳥     kanashimi no sougen o kiru otto mo tori

My husband wears
grassland of sorrow;
he is also a bird



六月の真夜の家裂く金の馬    rokugatsu no mayo no ie saku kin no uma

A golden horse
splitting the house
at midnight in June



夜の秋家鴨一羽の白さかな    yoru no aki ahiru ichiwa no shirosa kana

Autumn at night
it is as white as
one duck



銀の器か天の器かフィヨルド    gin no utsuwa ka ten no utsuwa ka fiyorudo

Oh, fjord!
are you a silver vessel
or a vessel in heaven ?



山の春青年は母を兎という    yama no haru seinen wa haha o usagi to yu

Spring in the mountain  
the youth calls his mother
a rabbit



遠きに雪解ネパールの木綿美し   tooki ni yukige nepa-ru no momen utsukushi

Snow melting far
the cotton of Nepal
how beautiful



白い睡蓮鳥籠を吊るして坐り     shiroi suirem torikago o tsurushite suwari

White water lilies
after hanging a bird cage
sitting here



青い彗星てんとう虫這い静かなり    aoi suisei tentoumushi hai shizuka nari

blue comet
ladybugs creeping
it is now quiet

pregnant with my child
about the size of the new moon?

A boy is coming
innocently enough
to stab sufficiently



未来より滝を吹き割る風来たる     夏石番矢  (Ban’ya Natsuishi 1955- )
mirai yori taki o fukiwaru kaze kitaru

Wind comes up
to blow the waterfall apart
from the future
